We aim to make our events as accessible as possible to everyone who would like to attend. Here is some information about what we can do to help you come to a Manchester Girl Geeks event:
Disabled access to the venue
We will wherever possible endeavour to hold our events in venues which are wheelchair accessible, and the only exceptions will be when we’ve been specially invited to use a particular venue. We’ll put information on our event pages about the accessibility of the venue for each event, and please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or aren’t sure.
If you have other access needs (audio loops, font size on handouts, more information about the specifics of the event, or anything else) please email using the link above – we will always try to sort things out where possible.
We hold all of our events in venues in or near the city centre – within easy reach of public transport links, and city centre car parking. If you have any questions about public transport, where parking can be found, or if you need any assistance, please get in touch with us in advance of the event, and we’ll do our best to help. (On the day of the event, we’re often busy setting up so please let us know ahead of time if possible!)
Children & Babysitting
We try to make our events as child-friendly as possible. At the Girl Geek Tea Parties (Sunday afternoons), there is no alcohol served and we provide tea, biscuits and cordial for younger guests. Depending on the topic, the workshop might be suitable even for younger children, and we have had guests as young as 5 – just drop us an email and we can provide you with some more information. Some of the ladies in our team are official STEM Ambassadors and have therefore had a CRB check as well, if there are any concerns.
- Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
If you need to arrange a babysitter in order to be able to attend the event, we can also contribute to child care costs for up to £10 per event (on a first come, first serve basis). Please let us know before the event.
I’m a guy, but I really want to attend!
Yes, the Girl Geek events are aimed at, and organised by, girls and women – but men are more than welcome to attend all of our events. If you can come along with a girl geek, that’s even better.
The event is sold out / I don’t have PayPal
We always have some spare places due to no-shows, but to make sure we don’t oversell the events, we usually limit the number of tickets. If the event is sold out but you would like a ticket, just get in touch and we can sort something out.
If you can’t buy a ticket because you don’t have a PayPal account, simply drop us an email, we’ll sign you up and you can pay on the door. The small booking fee for our events is to prevent no-shows, and it helps us to estimate how many people we can expect for the workshop.
You want to come to a Girl Geek Dinner or Girl Geek Tea Party, but there’s something stopping you? Just get in touch and we’ll try our best to make it happen! Email: email@example.com
