HackManchester success for the Manchester Girl Geeks team

We’re very pleased to announce that Sarah Carswell, Aadhi Selvaraj, and Rachel Breeze, alias “Team Manchester Girl Geeks” won MOSI’s Turing Sunflower Challenge at last weekend’s HackManchester 25 hour coding marathon.* They developed a site which pulled in location data from the Turing’s Sunflower Project to show a heatmap of the locations of planted sunflowers, as well as a map of photos of the sunflowers.

To accompany an article on the Sunflower Project, the Manchester Evening News also published a piece on the hack, including quotes from Sarah, Aadhi, Rachel, and HackManchester organiser and Manchester Girl Geeks Dinner founder Gemma Cameron. Needless to say we’re very proud of the ladies on the team, as well as Gem, for their achievements at HackManchester! “The IT girls win with geek power” indeed!

* We have to add that the team was the only one to attempt the Sunflower challenge, but they did produce a working app that met the challenge requirements within less than a day, so the win is well deserved!
